Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)

GASTROESOPHAGEAL REFLUX DISEASE (GERD)

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) occurs when stomach contents flow back into the esophagus. The stomach acid comes in contact with the lining of the esophagus causing discomfort, pain and sometimes trouble swallowing. Treatment of GERD can involve lifestyle modifications and specific medications. Sometimes further testing may be required.
